Litchfield National Park

I remember the gigantic termite ant hills from my previous trip from Katherine to Darwin 40 years ago. Didn't see them on that drive this time, but they are a feature in Litchfield National Park.

Shortly after leaving the termite mounds we came across a fire that we assume was started by the careless tossing of a cigarette butt.

Every time the wind blew it fanned the fire and pushed it further and further. It spread from right to left. In the next photo, look for the tree to Brandt's left.

After about half an hour I had to cross the road to fit most of the damage in. Two other families had also stopped. Together the men put out the fire. The fire brigade had been called and we assume they would dampen it down to make sure it didn't flare up again.

So we continued to Wagi Falls, a very popular swimming and picnic spot.

Just had to take a photo of this spider, which I am told is the St Andrews Cross spider.

People were enjoying the water. We didn't bring our swimming gear. Anyway, this sign was enough to put me off. (what if a Salty had entered the area undetected?!!!)

And, of course the visit to Wagi Falls ended with us having a bite to eat.
