So it was back along the beach, let the tyres down further to 18psi,

pedal to the metal back up over the sand dunes,

through the river crossings

time for lunch and to re-inflate the tyres

We had a couple of days in Cooktown - to have CV joints and front bearings done.
And now we are off again, heading towards the tip of cape York. On the way we met this guy at Old Laura River.

It is a 1927 Oakland and I believe it has covered many miles! (the owner said he had previously taken it all the way to the cape but this time was only going part way, he and his wife had travelled all the way up from Victoria in it!!)
That night we camped off the road about 30km north of Musgrave.
Thursday got an early start, stopped off at Coen as there was cell phone coverage there and we were able to make enquiries via the internet as to availability at Chilli Beach, which is in the Iron Ranges National Park and camp sites in National Parks have to be pre booked . Alas no camp sites for the nights we were aiming to be there.
Evidently Coen and Weipa have cricket teams which travel for inter-town games. On one such occasion the after match "refreshments" were at the Exchange Hotel and one of the players jokingly put an "s" in front of the hotel's name and it has stuck

Camped at Archer River. A beautiful spot.

popular with camping travellers

The creek is a good place to sit

and shower

At o e stage we were going to stay for three nights but changed our minds and moved on after two nights and headed for Chilli Beach.
