Cairns area - first visit

Monday 4th June went to Cairns. Tuesday we had our first visit from New Zealanders. Brandt's cousin and his wife flew to Cairns for the start of a couple of weeks in the area. We made contact and they had the evening meal with us.
Wednesday we were up bright and early for our trip to the Great Barrier Reef. Didn't get the best start as we needed $3 cash to get in to the all day car park. No one in the car had that much cash, so we backed out of the entrance and Brandt went running to the shops to get some cash.
Next problem was that the information centre that we booked with had given us incorrect directions to the ferry berth. Nevertheless we found the right place and so began a long day on the reef.
At the first destination people went diving, snorkeling and we also had the opportunity to go on a glass bottom boat.

We were well fed all day. The following photo is taken at afternoon tea time.

An enjoyable day.
Brandt tried out his underwater camera :

Friday we drove north to Port Douglas. Parked by St Mary's by the sea. Over the course of the day there were two weddings there.

Wandered through the streets of Port Douglas, through the marina

and then up to the lookout.

Some other tourists helped us out by taking this photo on my camera

Decided there was still enough time in the day to go to Mossman Gorge.

Walked up the boardwalk and came to the river with its amazing scenery

The sugar cane is in flower at the moment so on the way back we stopped on the side of the road to get some good photos

We got one toot from a passing car.
